Our Springerle cookies are an old world favorite. Each of these ivory-colored, rectangular cookies is imprinted with a Christmas, nature, or religious image originally found in the cookie molds that our sisters used early in our monastery’s history. Our Springerles have a dense, soft, cake-like texture and the traditional, intense flavor and aroma of anise.
The recipe for our bestselling Hildegard Gingerbread cookies originated from St. Hildegard herself. Whether or not they live up to St. Hildegard’s claim to “slow the aging process, create a cheerful countenance, lighten a heavy heart, and release intelligence,” these crunchy cookies are sure to delight those who enjoy the warm flavors of almonds, cloves, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
